What is the NEET examination?
The National Eligibility cum Entry Test, better known as the NEET amongst professionals and students. It is a physical exam taken by candidates who aspire to pursue the undergraduate medical stream in India.
The NEET is a standardised entrance test widely accepted by all medical colleges, paving the path for a smoother admission process nationwide.
When exactly is the NEET Exam to be held?
NEET is regularly hailed as a saving grace by medical aspirants, who previously had to undergo multitudes of entrance exams and testing, depending on the institutions they planned to apply for.
The exam is held only once a year, and for this year, the NEET is scheduled to be conducted on September 12, 2022.

Once the test has been conducted and the results announced, the NEET provides 80,055 MMBS seats, 26,949 BDS seats, 52,720 AYUSH seats and 525 B.V.Sc & AH seats for the lucky candidates with exemplary performance scores.
All MBBS admissions processed via the NEET exam are further classified into two quotas – the All India Quota (15%) and the State Quota (85%) – both of which undergo counselling before starting a student’s medical degree.
For the All India Quota, the admission process is conducted thoroughly by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC). The MCC is in charge of ensuring centralised counselling for this 15% of candidates.
On the other hand, the counselling for the State Quota is over seeded and conducted by the respectively designated state admission authorities.

Students will be able to register online at the NTA website, and the applications are currently scheduled to commence on July 13, 2022. While the exam is conducted in person, applications will strictly only be taken online.
What to expect in the NEET entrance test?
As is often the case with many entrance tests, the NEET is a multiple-choice question examination (MCQ). This allows for a uniform and objective testing service, allowing the admissions process to having a fairer playing field for all candidates.
The MCQs are designed to test the students’ memory, intelligence and problem-solving abilities, and in-depth understanding of the workings of science, all of which are crucial to fully nurturing a medical college.
NEET covers topics from the three core subjects of the science stream – namely Physics, Chemistry and Biology and the examination itself is available for assessment in 11 different languages.
These include English, Hindi, Gujarati, Tamil, Urdu, Bengali, Marathi, Assamese, Oriya, Kannada and Telugu. Upon receiving the NEET results, the test scores are valid for up to one year for admission consideration.

The test consists of 180 MCQs, which must be solved over 180 minutes (3 hours). Each MCQ is accompanied by four possible answers, for which the candidate must pick the correct one.
Every right answer accounts for a +4 in the test score, and every wrong answer leads to a -1 negative marking in the overall score.
However, no marks are deducted for leaving a question unanswered if a candidate is not sure about the correct answer.
