Until now, the Indian education system was based on a single National Curriculum Framework. As the teaching methods and material now seem outdated, the central government introduced a new National Education Policy in 2020.
The policy aims to move the focus of education from rote learning to Competency-Based Learning; in order to prepare children for the latest global challenges of the 21st century. Different steps are being planned to achieve this. One such step is that the National Council for Education Research and Training (NCERT) will have to formulate separate National Curriculum Frameworks (NCFs) that will individually focus on four broad areas- early childhood, school, teachers’ education and adult education. Also, it is being said that the NCFs must be framed by integrating local and indigenous flavour from across the country by undertaking wider consultation.
