What is CUET 2022?
Students of class 12th are already preparing for the board exams and other entrance exams to take admission to prestigious universities.
The University Grant Commission (UGC) has come up with a brand new format for admission to central universities across the country.
On Monday, UGC has made a shocking announcement regarding scrapping the formula of class 12th marks to take admission to the central universities.
And, come up with the Central University Entrance Test (CUET) starting from the session 2022-23.
If you want to get admitted to any of the 45 central universities available in the country, then it is mandatory to give this test.
With this test, you can get admitted to any of the undergraduate programs offered by the central universities in India.
UGC has informed the central universities to stick by this criteria. In addition to these criteria, the universities have been given an option to keep the 12th mark as an eligibility criterion for the exam.
When will CUET 2022 be conducted?
The registration process for the CUET 2022 is likely to be started on April 2. You can fill out the online application form once they are out for this exam.
CUET will be conducted for the very first time in the country in July.
Don't panic about the exam as you have enough time to prepare as well as excel in the exam. So, just stay calm and firstly know everything about it.
Will class 12th marks will have any weightage for admission to the central universities?
UGC has made it clear that there is no compulsion from their end to consider class 12th marks for admission to undergraduate courses in the central universities.
It depends upon the university whether they want to keep class 12th marks as a part of their admission process or will they solely go with the CUET exam results.
Why does CUET come into the picture?
You must be wondering when the admission process was purely based on class 12th marks, then why there was a need for CUET?
Well, one of the most important reasons behind it is the neck-to-neck competition among the students for the cut-offs.
In this cut-off race, most talented brains are left behind from taking admission to prestigious central universities.
Students pass their 12th class from various boards. And, all the boards have a different pattern of evaluation that makes it unfair for the students to get admission to renowned universities.
Therefore, to nullify this disparity among the students, CUET is introduced.
This year, it will be conducted for the first time in the country. Therefore, everyone is eagerly waiting for how it will turn out to be.
Which universities are covered under CUET?
You must be wondering that since the start of the blog, you have been reading central universities. But, which universities come under the central university?
There are overall 45 universities in the country that are central and will conduct CUET this time.
Some of the prominent names in this list are the Central University of Kerala, Central University of Himachal Pradesh, Delhi University, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Jamia Millia Islamia, Indira Gandhi National Open University, Banaras Hindu University, Aligarh Muslim University, Sikkim University, Mizoram University, etc.
These are only a few renowned names that will conduct CUET this year. In addition to these, several other universities will come under central universities.
What will be the syllabus for CUET?
UGC has not published any new or specific syllabus for CUET. UGC has made it clear that all the questions asked in the entrance exam will be based on the NCERT syllabus taught to the students in class 12th.
It has created a lot of havoc among others because NCERT is only prescribed by the CBSE board.
Therefore, this will be unfair to the students from other state boards.
But, there is no further update from the UGC for the same. So, for now, students must stick to the NCERT for CUET 2022.
What will be the pattern of CUET?
When we are deeply talking about the CUET 2022 exam, then it becomes important to understand the pattern of the entrance exam.
If you are not aware of the pattern of CUET, then you won’t be able to align your preparation in the right direction for the exam.
There will be overall four sections in the CUET exam. Section I-A and I-B will deal with the language subjects.
Section II will be a domain-specific subject whereas Section III will be a general test. You are not required to choose the options from every section.
You can make the choice based on the requirement of the university.
You can choose a maximum of any three languages collectively from Section I-A and Section I-B. On the other hand, you can select up to six domain subjects.
However, you can only go for the third language as a sixth domain subject.
Therefore, you can take the test in an overall maximum of nine subjects.
Section I-A and I-B
Section I-A will comprise 13 different languages like Tamil, Bengali, Assamese, Punjabi, English, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Gujarati, Odia, and Urdu.
Section I-B will comprise 19 different languages like Chinese, Russian, Japanese, Tibetan, Santhali, Manipuri, Maithali, Dogri, Bodo, Konkani, Kashmiri, Sindhi, Arabic, Italian, Persian, Nepali, German, Spanish, and French.
Therefore, you can choose any other language in Section I-B apart from the one given in Section I-A.
Each language test will be conducted for 45 minutes and you need to attempt 40 questions out of 50 questions given.
Section II
This section will deeply check your domain-specific knowledge. You will be given overall 27 domain-specific subjects and you can choose a maximum of six subjects for the exam.
You can choose the domains as per the university requirements.
Some of the main domain options available are Chemistry, Business Studies, Accountancy, Entrepreneurship, History, Home Science, Mathematics, Sociology, Psychology, Economics, etc.
You will be given the option to attempt any 40 questions out of 50 questions in each domain.
The duration allotted to each domain will be 45 minutes and the domain-specific questions will be strictly based on class 12th NCERT.
Section III
It will comprise a general test. You can go for this section for any of the programs being offered by the universities that consider the General Test as a mandatory parameter for admission.
You will encounter questions related to general knowledge, general mental ability, quantitative reasoning, current affairs, numerical ability, logical, and analytical reasoning.
You will have the flexibility to attempt any 60 questions out of 75 questions in the allotted time frame of 60 minutes.
In which format CUET will be conducted?
CUET exams will be conducted for several days in July. The exam will be conducted in two sessions.
For session one, you have to appear for one language test from the 13 mandatory languages, two domain-specific papers, and a general test.
The general test is not a mandatory one but it will depend upon the eligibility criteria of the university.
For session two, you have to appear for four domain-specific subjects and one language-specific subject if you are seeking admission to some foreign language course.
How the merit list will be formed?
It is very important to understand that after giving the exam UGC is not responsible for making any merit list.
You will be given your scores on the entrance exam by the UGC and universities will be responsible for making the merit lists based on the scores.
Will there be any reservation criteria?
The reservation criteria for every university remain the same as it was before.
There will be designated seats for the general category and reserved category. You can check with the university about the reservation criteria.
