1- Know The Exam - Learn the syllabus and understand the topics. The exam is divided into 3 stages - on passing one stage it leads to another, if you fail at any stage. You have to begin from scratch.
2- Meet the Eligibility Criteria - You must be 21 years old and a graduate from a recognized university to take the exam.

3- Basics - Start reading a good newspaper like Indian Express or The Hindu to learn what's happening in India and outside the country. One must also read a financial newspaper to understand the business and economics of the country. Second, go through the NCERTs for classes 6th-12th to form a base for the subjects.
