All there is to know about CUET 2022

Were you aware that the Central Universities Entrance Test (CUET) was once referred to as the Central Universities Common Entrance Test (CUCET)?

For all students wishing to seek admission to reputable central universities across the country, now is your time to shine. There will be 154 designated exam centres all around India where students will sit for a little over 3 hours in an exam that lays out their future path.

The online multiple-choice questions will be available in 13 languages, which provides students with a lot of room for personal choice.

Before you start filling out your application for the CUET 2022, be sure to take a look at the eligibility criteria and academic qualification required for the exam, as per the National Testing Agency.

Exam Pattern for CUET 2022

This is where it gets nerve-wracking for many. By being aware of the exam pattern before you step into the exam hall, you’ll know exactly what you’re walking in to.

As they say, chance favours the prepared mind. So, what exactly is the CUET 2022 going to look like this year? Well, for starters, the exam will be online for the first time.

This might prove to be time-saving as students won’t lose time mindlessly flicking through the pages.

The exam itself will comprise of three sections:

1. Section I - Further divided into two sections as follows:

i) Section IA - 13 languages (Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Gujarati, Odiya, Bengali, Assamese, Punjabi, English, Hindi and Urdu)

ii) Section IB - 19 languages (French, Spanish, German, Nepali, Persian, Italian, Arabic, Sindhi, Kashmiri, Konkani, Bodo, Dogri, Maithili, Manipuri, Santhali, Tibetan, Japanese, Russian, Chinese)

Candidates will have the choice to pick maximum 3 languages from both these sections combined.

1. Section II - This section will contain 27 domain-specific subjects, out of which a candidate will have the choice to pick 6 at most.

2. Section III - This will be a general test.

The exam will present a total of 175 questions, out of which a student will be expected to attempt 140. The stakes are high, and the time not so much.

Make sure you’ve prepared yourself to give your absolute best without losing even a single minute within the hall!

Marking Scheme for CUET 2022

You can only play your cards right once you are aware of how the cards are dealt. In order to plan an effective studying strategy, you must know how your exam will be marked.

As far as the CUET 2022 is concerned, the marking scheme will be somewhat like this:

1. Candidates will be awarded 5 marks for each correct answer.

2. Candidates will have 1 mark deducted from their total for each incorrect answer.

3. No change to the marks will occur for each unattempted question.

Hence, let it be known that CUET 2022 does have negative marking. Well, what difference does that make?

Why does negative marking matter?

Knowing that you will lose marks for each incorrect answer means that you need to be smart about how you attempt your exam.

You need to find that perfect balance at attempting questions you do not know the answers to, in hopes that your guess might be right.

With CUET’s marking rules, for every answer that you guess, there is a 20% chance that you might lose a mark, but there’s also an 80 percent chance that you might end up gaining 5 marks!

Since you know these odds, it would be a huge mistake to leave all the questions you are unsure of, simply because you might lose a mark. The odds are, you might end up gaining more marks than you anticipated.

It is now upto you, to be smart about achieving those odds.

Closing Thoughts

The applications for CUET have already been opened a few weeks ago and the last day to apply is just around the corner - 6th May.

The final exam date has not been announced yet but it is expected to be somewhere in the first two weeks of July. That means, it’s not that far away!

So, for all students hoping to appear in this year’s exam and achieve something extraordinary for themselves, gear up and get your study glasses on. From this day on, every second counts, and it is in your hands to write your destiny.
