What is the JEE Advanced 2026 Cutoff?

For the General category, the qualifying cutoff is expected to be around 93.5–95 percentile, while for OBC-NCL it may be around 79–81 percentile, and for EWS around 80–82 percentile. • Practising previous year JEE Advanced question papers is one of the most effective ways to prepare for the exam. These papers help students understand the real exam pattern, difficulty level, question types, and marking scheme, while also improving time management and accuracy. 

Should I Attempt All Questions?

Absolutely not. This is one of the most common and costly mistakes students make in JEE Advanced.

The JEE Advanced 2026 mock test will be of 180 minutes, similar to the actual exam, allowing candidates to practice time management and navigation between sections. 

Follow this approach instead:

1. First pass (60 min per paper): Attempt only the questions you're 100% confident about.

2. Second pass (45 min): Revisit moderate-difficulty questions with a clear head.

3. Final 15 min: Review marked answers, check for silly mistakes.

Never guess on MCQs with negative marking unless you can eliminate at least 2 options confidently.

How to Handle Negative Marking in JEE Advanced?

Both papers include a mix of single-correct MCQs, multiple-correct MCQs, numerical answer type (NAT) questions, and matching-type questions. The marking scheme varies each year, and negative marking may apply to certain question types, as specified in the instructions provided during the exam.

• Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions → No negative marking. Always attempt these. Even an educated guess is better than leaving them blank.

• Multiple-correct MCQs → Be very careful. Partial marking exists, but wrong selections deduct marks.

Paper 1 vs Paper 2 — Which Is Harder?

Neither paper is definitively harder — they're designed to be equally challenging but test different strengths.

There are two papers, Paper 1 and Paper 2, each of 3 hours duration, with extra time for PwD candidates. JEE Advanced rank list will be prepared only for candidates who appear in both Paper 1 and Paper 2.
