Are you excited about passing GATE 2026 and aiming to get into the top postgraduate programme or landing a job in the PSU of your dreams? As the exam is just 3 months away, you’re probably feeling anxious. But don’t be afraid! In this blog, we’ll guide you on clearing the exam with three months of preparation.
Know the Exam Pattern
At the beginning of this 90-day journey of GATE 2025, one needs to understand the marking scheme, types of questions, and the time given for each section.
The types of questions asked in GATE include multiple choice questions (MCQs), multiple select questions (MSQs) and numerical answer type (NAT). If you select an incorrect answer in a 1-mark MCQ, there will be a negative marking of 1/3 mark. Similarly, for a 2-mark MCQ, 2/3 marks will be deducted. There is no negative marking in MSQs and NAT questions.
Choose the Suitable Study Materials
Your journey starts with the right kind of books for GATE. As you don’t have enough time to read every page, you must choose subject-specific books that skip all the unnecessary information and stick to the essential concepts. You must get a good GATE Aptitude Book, as general aptitude has enough weightage and is the easiest section to score well in.
Solve Previous Papers for GATE
Solving previous paper sets of GATE helps you understand the latest trends, commonly asked questions, and the expectations of the examiners. You must solve at least one previous year's paper every 3 days. Make them more like real tests with the timer on and distractions off. This will help you figure out what went wrong and what went right.
