CUET (Common University Entrance Test) is a newly introduced admission test which has replaced CUCET (Central Universities Common Entrance Test), and  is now considered mandatory for students to secure admission in 45 Central Universities of India.

Some State Universities have also decided to accept students’ CUET scores for admissions.

Is the CUET exam syllabus out?

The CUET exam syllabus is extensive and requires the candidates to use a variety of their cognitive skills. The MCQ-based test is divided into 4 sections which the students can modify according to the requirements of the universities they are applying for.

The first section, which is labelled as Reading Comprehension Test, has 2 further subparts. The two subsections offer 13 and 19 languages respectively, among which, each candidate may choose 3 languages at maximum.

Most students select only English and Hindi at this stage. For this part, students will be tested through factual, literary, and narrative passages to judge their vocabulary and literary aptitude.

Each candidate will be given 45 minutes per language, and will have to attempt 40 out of the 50 total questions.

The second section, which is the Domain-Specific Test, pertains to 27 subjects, out of which, each student can obtain 6 subjects at max.

The students’ choices are usually dictated by the requirements of their prospective universities, so it is advised that each student should have a clear understanding of their preferred educational institutions as well as desired fields of study.

Section 2 of CUET contains 50 questions for each subject, and the students have to attempt 40 questions in 45 minutes.

Even though the test is generally MCQ-based, this section may have certain subjective-based questions which require input text. Hence, students will not be given options for those questions and they will have to enter their responses with the help of a keyboard.

The General Aptitude Test, which is the third and the final section of CUET, is entirely MCQ-based and comprises 75 questions which are to be attempted in 60 minutes.

Students will be awarded negative marks for every incorrect answer, but will not be penalized for leaving a question unanswered.

Each candidate is tested for their logical reasoning, analytical skills, basic numerical ability, general knowledge, familiarity with current affairs, and basic mental ability in this section of the exam.

3. Section-Specific Approach

Once you get your hands on the type of skills you need to ace the test, all you have to do is keep training yourself. There are multiple techniques which you can use to improve your performance in each section of the test.
