IIT JEE Advanced is known as the toughest competitive test in India, and it generally requires intelligence and consistency to be successful at this exam. A great number of students appear for this competitive exam after preparing for it for months or years.

Each candidate, while preparing for the competitive exam, faces some errors that can result in loss of marks, making them unqualified for the JEE. However, there is some advice to help you tackle each preparation problem:

1. Inadequate Study Schedule

Many students dive into preparation without a clear and structured plan. They often start with high enthusiasm but lose track over time due to disorganization.

For this, create a realistic and detailed study schedule that allocates time for all three subjects—Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Break down your syllabus into smaller chunks and assign deadlines to cover each topic. Regularly revisit and revise your plan as you progress.

An irregular and unstructured study schedule is the usual self-destroying scenario for many students. It’s important to emphasize a well-structured timetable. Many of them begin with enthusiasm initially, which deviates sooner or later to get confused.

The answer is to make an understanding and genuine study schedule that will enable you to choose the time for the three subjects: Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physics. Divide your syllabus into manageable sections and assign each topic to be completed on a certain day. Reexamine all the topics every time.

2. Ignoring the fundamentals and concentrating mainly on Difficult Concepts

However, it sometimes happens that those who deal with solving the most intricate problems forget about the essentials, but it’s important to have a strong foundation of the basics.

To increase your learning from one subject to the next, the best thing for you to do is to concentrate on teaching methods closely related to the main ideas. You should focus on the fundamental things and NCERT books to solidify the knowledge, and after that, you can move to the complicated ones from the reference book.

3. Neglecting Revision

Some students forget about revisiting as they get too wrapped up in learning new concepts. Long-term memorization deserves more attention as it is the most important part of the learning process. This can be done by regular practice and revision.

Likewise, set aside a few hours each week to go through your lecture notes from the last week. Create notes that include important formulas and important concepts for your reference.

4. Including Several Resources in Your Study Schedule

Many students believe that the more resources they have, the better they will be prepared to crack the JEE. However, they usually end up feeling confused and overloaded.

It is a good idea to use fewer books but concentrate more on the ones you have already. For instance, textbooks from NCERT, IIT preparation books, and your notes will be adequate. The target should be the quality of the quantity.

5. Insufficient Time Management Practice

One common mistake is to solve questions without a time limit, which can be the reason for a lack of time management during the exam. Make sure you follow the time limit when attempting mock tests and then evaluate your performance. The issues of time commitment and accuracy will be discussed along with others.

In terms of time management, check your scores after each mock test to fix the weaker areas and increase your accuracy and speed. The solution is practicing question-answering within the allocated time.

6. Ignoring Your Weaknesses

Students find it easy to know that they know the easy topics, but it’s important to emphasize weaker areas as well.

To correct this, analyze your performance during mock tests and focus on the weak points to gain more marks.

7. Neglecting one's physical and mental well-being

To attain their goals, students often compromise their health. The fact is that never exercising, maintaining a poor diet, or sleeping at irregular times may act as a setback in the area of attention and performance.

Only the best treatment should be provided for your body's health. Make sure to keep a good diet, exercise a lot, and get enough sleep.

8. Ignoring Difficult Questions

Some students tend not to ask questions because they are afraid to be judged or they think that their problems are not worth mentioning. This may result in gaps in understanding that can cost them in the exam.

So, no matter how trivial your concerns may appear to you, always seek explanations for them.

9. Excessive or insufficient confidence

When students choose to take exams, lack of confidence and overconfidence are damaging. While students who lack confidence may be reluctant to try questions, overconfident students may neglect necessary preparation.

The right decision is to take a balanced view. Do work with full confidence after you are done with the preparation, but also modesty should be there in your personality.

10. Neglecting the Value of Practice Exams

Sometimes, students postpone the practice exams because they think they will start once they have finished the course material.

Once the topics are completed, get the practice exams right away. Use them as part of your study material to measure your progress and develop your exam strategy. Be aware of how well you perform on each practice test so that you are not caught making the same mistakes again.

Sidestepping the typical mistakes, which are usually committed during your JEE preparation, you could significantly enhance the process. Stay focused on the tasks and steadily move toward success. Be confident in your knowledge and the strategy you have chosen and attract your dream of getting into an IIT.
