The Defense Services Entrance Exam (CDS) is a national-level exam to recruit candidates for government employment. It is conducted by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) and the Directorate of Establishments (DOE). Candidates can apply for this exam through the online process or offline process.

CDS Syllabus 2024-25 is mainly comprised of English, General Knowledge, and Elementary Mathematics for admission to the Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy, and Air Force Academy.

DEFENSE SERVICES ENTRANCE EXAMINATION

CDS is a national-level examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for admission to National Defence Academy, Indian Military Academy and other military academies. The exam is held in April every year and candidates can take this exam through online mode only.

CDS SYLLABUS 2024-25

MATHEMATICS:  Maths is an important part of the CDS Syllabus 2024-25. It contains - Geometry, Algebra.

Geometry: Concept of the area and its measures, relations between length and breadth of figures, area of a triangle or parallelogram; perimeter, area and volume of the right pyramid; right circular cone (Cone).

Algebra: Applications of equations involving exponents (exponential functions), factoring polynomials with rational coefficients whose roots are more than two places apart in the principal axis (Factoring Polynomials), quadratic equations with radicals in the denominator, first order linear differential equation including constant coefficients and initial conditions.

CDS Syllabus 2024-25: PAPER-1 (WEIGHTAGE 100) 

The paper is a written examination and will consist of 100 marks and the duration of the paper is 3 hours. The questions will be set in English language only, with no negative marking for wrong answers. The following topics are covered: Elementary Mathematics, Elementary Algebra and Geometry, Elementary Statistics and Probability Theory.

ELEMENTARY MATHEMATICS

Algebra is the language of numbers. It involves solving equations and inequalities, including crossword puzzles.

Geometry is the study of shapes and space, including circles, triangles, squares and more. Geometry also involves graphing lines on paper to demonstrate relationships between points on a graph (e.g., a line parallel to another).

Reasoning skills are used in many areas of school math including geometry as well as algebraic reasoning exercises where students must use their knowledge about shapes or patterns while solving problems with math symbols that they do not understand fully yet!

Quadratic equations are typically expressed in two variables (x & y). If you can solve quadratic equations using those same variables then you know how to solve for any other type of equation such as linear equations which include some constants too! ARITHMETIC

This section covers basic arithmetic operations. It starts with the theory of numbers, which is a prerequisite for understanding addition, subtraction and multiplication. The concepts are then applied to decimal numbers and fractions with a focus on decimals before dealing with percentages and ratios at the end of the chapter.

NUMBER SYSTEM

You need to know how to use the decimal system, which is the most common one. The decimal system has 10 digits, which we call “places” or “decimal places”. The first place is called 0 (zero), and each additional place represents a power of 10. For example

0 = 0%

1 = 10%

2 = 100%

3 = 1000% 

PERCENTAGE

A percentage is a fraction, which means it has an equivalent fraction for every number in the fraction. For example, if you have 0.12 and 2.5, you can write them both as 12/25=1/2 or 1 in 2 or 50%. The first is a simple way to write out what we're doing here—we divide by two and then take away 1 to get our final answer (50%).

The second way we could write this would be:

12/2 = 0.0375

This tells us that 3/4ths of our original amount remains after being divided by two; therefore, only one-fourth has been taken away from these numbers.

RATIO & PROPORTION

Ratio and proportion is the study of two or more numbers. The ratio of two whole numbers is the comparison between them. Ratio worksheets, examples and exercises are available in our CDS syllabus 2023-24 section.

AVERAGE 

The mean is the sum of all values divided by the number of values.

The median is the middle value in a set of numbers. If there are two or more different amounts, then the median will be between them. It's also called the 50th percentile or 25th percentile; it's just another way to say point halfway between extremes (like 1/2). For example: if you're calculating an average for an exam where your class got a 70% and another got an 80%, then your calculation would look like this:

For each student: 70 + 20 = 90

Add up all students' scores

Divide this total by how many students took that exam

INTEREST ALGEBRA

To find the value of a number in a given period of time, you need to find its equivalent interest and then multiply it by the number of years. For example, if you have $1 million and want to know what it will be worth after 10 years, you can use this formula:

$1M = 1/1000(10^0) = $100K

ELEMENTARY SURDS

Surds are numbers that cannot be positive or negative. The following are some examples:

1/3 = 0.3333, which is a surd when written as a fraction.

-6 = 6, which is not a surd because it can be paired with another number and still be both positive and negative (and so on).

In elementary school math classes, you may have learned that adding or subtracting integers is easy—just add them up! But what happens when we want to add two surds? It turns out that there’s no rule for doing this operation in elementary school math classes; they just don’t teach it at all! So how do we add two numbers? Well firstly let’s think about how many ways this type of operation could happen: adding two different types of numbers together would give us four possible outcomes (1+1=2) which means there are 2x2x2x2=24 combinations for us to choose from here.

We also know from earlier in this lesson about exponents that every time we multiply any base by itself again times something else then multiply all those products together too much will come out so let's see what happens if I try multiplying my original number by itself again times 3 instead...

CDS Exam 2024-25: Some Important Instructions before the CDS Exam 2024-25

In the space provided at the top of the answer sheet, write just your Centre and subject, followed by the CDS test booklet series (in brackets), topic code, and exam roll number in black ballpoint pen. The answer sheet is located at the end of the exam booklet.

Fill in your CDS booklet series (A, B, C, or D according to the requirements), subject code, and roll number on the answer page. These circles have been given for this specific purpose.

If a candidate discovers that the CDS booklet series is missing from their exam booklet or that their response sheet is missing numbers, they must immediately tell an invigilator.

Candidates should be informed that any blanks, errors, or discrepancies in the encoding or filling of information, particularly the Roll Number and Test Booklet Series Code, will result in their CDS OMR answer sheet being refused. Candidates must recall their Roll Number as well as the Test Booklet Series Code. This is especially true for the Roll Number and the Test Booklet Series Code.

Please double-check that the exam booklet provided to you prior to the start of the CDS exam does not contain any unprinted pages, damaged pages, or missing pages, or anything of the like; if it does, you will need to have it replaced with a full test booklet that is part of the same series and covers the same subject.

Fill in the details requested on the CDS answer sheet, exam booklet, or rough work page only; do not add your name or any other identifying information.

Avoid folding or otherwise destroying the CDS Answer Sheet, and make no unnecessary marks on top of it. On the backside of the answer sheet, you are not permitted to make any notes or write anything.

Field Marshal, Admiral of the Fleet, and Marshal of the Air Force are all 5-star ranks that are only bestowed upon a select few for great service on the battlefield.

Kodandera Madappa Cariappa and Sam Manekshaw are the only two Army officers to hold the title of Field Marshal.

Arjan Singh has been promoted to Marshal of the Indian Air Force.

The rank of Admiral of the Fleet has not yet been conferred.
