What’s New in 2026-27: Two Board Exams and 50% Competency-Based Questions

With the subtle changes in the 2026-27 board exam pattern, students can expect–

Two board exams for Class 10. From this session, CBSE Class 10 follows a two-phase system. Phase 1 is the main exam, compulsory for all students, and is expected to commence in February-March 2027. Phase 2, on the other hand, is an optional improvement exam expected in May 2027, meant for students who aim for a better score or need to clear a subject.

50% competency-based questions. Approximately half of the paper is made up of competency-focused questions that include MCQs, case-based questions, and source-based integrated questions.

Excluding these two, the CBSE Class 10 English marking scheme and section-wise marks are the same as the previous year. For the writing portion, the formal letter and an analytical paragraph still spot its prominent place.
