The entrance exam for all the premier National Law Universities in India is known as CLAT — Common Law Admission Test. Thousands of students take it every year, and only a few thousands pass. Success and failure have little to do with intelligence. It's nearly always a matter of preparation and planning.
Six months is just time enough to cover all five parts of the CLAT well, practise a clat previous year paper, do enough clat mock test papers and still have time for the final revision. But if you have a clear plan, and follow it daily.

Understanding the CLAT 2027 Exam Pattern
Opening any clat books first, you have to know what the exam is like. CLAT 2027 will be 120 questions with a time limit of 2 hours. The five sections are English Language, Current Affairs and General Knowledge, Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning and Quantitative Techniques.
When beginning to learn the game of law, the section that most students are not familiar with is Legal Reasoning. Does not assume any prior legal knowledge. It evaluates your ability to read, understand and produce a legal principle in a particular context. That's why practicing the CLAT Legal aptitude Mock test is crucial to your preparation — because it conditions your brain to think like CLAT.
The 6-Month Month-wise Blueprint
The best approach to 6 months is to spend the first 4 months developing section-wise strength, and the final 2 months improving and testing. Here's a straight and to the point month-by-month course of action:
|
Month |
Focus Area |
Weekly Target |
|
Month 1 |
English Language & Comprehension |
Read daily, practice RC passages from clat books |
|
Month 2 |
Legal Reasoning basics |
Study legal principles from clat preparation books |
|
Month 3 |
Logical Reasoning & Quantitative Techniques |
Solve 20 to 30 questions daily from clat exam books |
|
Month 4 |
Current Affairs & GK |
Read news daily, revise monthly GK capsules |
|
Month 5 |
PYQ practice and section-wise revision |
Attempt clat previous year question paper chapter wise |
|
Month 6 |
Full mock tests and final revision |
3 clat mock test papers per week, daily error review |
The first month is devoted to English reading as the ability to comprehend is central to most parts of CLAT. Reading slowly or not being able to read long passages will make the rest of the test more time-consuming. Your greatest strength in CLAT will be your speed and understanding while reading.
In Month 2, all of the class is spent exclusively on Legal Reasoning as it is the most difficult to become comfortable with. This section is one which most students underestimate. The right clat preparation books and lots of early legal questions based on passages help you a lot.
At the end of month 5, you have a good concept base. Now try the whole of the previous year clat question paper. The best way to get an idea of the difficulty and the type of questions asked in CLAT is to do chapter-wise past papers. Some questions are structured in the same way but the passage is changed.
The Ideal Daily Study Schedule
A daily routine ensures a degree of structure and eliminates uncertainty about what to read every day. This is an easy to follow time schedule that will keep all sections going without overwhelm:

The morning newspaper session is compulsory. CLAT current affairs section has questions from news of the last year thus it is advisable to read a good newspaper every day in order to prepare one's self for the section on current affairs in the exam. Many students miss this and then end up panicking in the 5th month due to GK. Don't do that.
Evening session will be for structured question practice from clat exam books and previous year papers. Take a clat legal aptitude test or a short section-wise test at night. Maintain full length clat mock tests during weekends when you have more time and energy.

How to Use PYQs and Mock Tests Effectively
Solving a previous year question paper for CLAT is not Reading. You need to sit with a timer, try it and then go through each individual question you got wrong and analyse it in detail. This process of "attempt, analyse, revise" is what will help you improve your score.
Begin using clat mock test papers from month 5 (or the latter half of month 4 at the latest). From now on, take a minimum of one clat legal aptitude mock test each week as Legal Reasoning requires repeated exposure to different types of passages to generate speed and accuracy.
During month 6, start to do full mock tests two or three times a week. Following every test, take some time to determine which test sections lowered your score. Review those areas in your clat exam books prior to the next exam. Over the last few weeks, this test/review cycle is the quickest to get better.
Conclusion
It is definitely possible to crack CLAT 2027 in 6 months. You've got the time and now you've got the plan. Utilize appropriate clat preparation books, read the newspaper each morning, practise from the clat previous year question paper in month 5, from month 4 onwards attend all the clat mock test papers and clat legal aptitude mock test sessions.
