Children should be able to use their knowledge of numbers, basic science facts and simple English from Class 1, and practice some more logical thinking in preparation for their Class 2 Olympiad exams in 2026-27. The best way to prepare for Olympiad in class 2 is to practice for 15-20 minutes daily, use picture based worksheets and use one good book for each subject rather than many random ones. A Class 2 Olympiad Exam is just a little bit harder than a Class 1 Olympiad Exam, so children with solid foundations are able to take this exam without any trouble and with a great deal of fun.
Class 2 is a thrilling time for children who are beginning to read with increased fluency, add and subtract slightly larger numbers and ask a lot more 'why' questions about the world. This is an ideal opportunity to try out Olympiad exams in a fun and relaxed manner. This blog provides a simple and easy to follow strategy for Maths Olympiad Class 2, Science Olympiad Class 2 and English Olympiad Class 2 and helps parents and children feel ready and confident.
What Is a Class 2 Olympiad Exam?
Olympiad exams are concept based exams to assess the understanding of the concept and not memorisation. In India, most Olympiad exams are held by the Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF) which organises International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO), National Science Olympiad (NSO) and International English Olympiad (IEO). These exams are available for students in Classes 1-12 and the format of the exams in Classes 1-4 is usually short and easy to manage for younger students, with a total of 35 questions.
There is typically a logical reasoning part, a subject specific part, and a slightly more challenging "Achievers" part to each paper. Questions are kept simple, visual and directly related to the syllabus for class 2 where children are developing their reading speed.
