Both competitive exams of CLAT (Common Law Admission Test) and NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance test) invite a lot of questions on how to tackle the circumstance of tougher examinations. While CLAT is targeted at law students, NEET serves the medical student population. The type of subjects involved, the level of competition and the dynamics of studying for them vary widely which justifies why their levels of toughness are not absolute. Let’s look at different aspects of these exams so that you can determine which one is likely to be more difficult taking into account your abilities, strengths and career aspirations.

Nature of the Exam

The exam pattern of CLAT is aimed at measuring the level of comprehension, reasoning and, most importantly, an analytical viewpoint of the student being examined. Subject areas like English, General Knowledge, Legal Aptitude, Logic and Maths are attempted. These are the core subject areas which the students of CLAT preparation books help them understand. On the other hand, NEET is a science-based exam that consists of subjects such as Physics, Chemistry and Biological sciences assessment. Because it is based on science subjects, thorough comprehension is necessary, and NEET books are fundamental.

Competition

Both exams have tough competition in their individual ways, but their different courses influence the interpretation of the levels of difficulty. Compared to NEET, CLAT has a relatively small number of applicants, but since the number of available places in the best national universities of law is limited, there is tough competition.

You can have a glimpse of the competition for getting into a law school by referring to the CLAT previous year question papers. On the other hand, practicing on the NEET previous year question papers will help you assess the degree of difficulty of the exam and the trend of the questions as well.

Subject Difficulty

Compared to NEET, most of the students feel that the subjects in CLAT are much easier to learn. This is because CLAT has a heavy emphasis on logical reasoning, general awareness and legal aptitude which can be enhanced through practice and reading materials. On the contrary, NEET has certain subjects requiring a thorough understanding such as physics, chemistry and biology which may sometimes be tedious and time consuming. The syllabus for NEET is more broader and it can take several months most time the use of standard NEET books just to cover the surface of the topics even though for the topics more detail up to years may be required.

While preparing for CLAT, it is always advisable to use the appropriate CLAT books and practice on CLAT previous year question papers regularly which will improve these chances for you. The same goes for NEET; you can familiarize yourself with scientific concepts through regular revision and practice using NEET books.

Finally, nothing is successful if not the way in which an individual is able to put into use whatever materials he/she has, whether CLAT preparation books or NEET books.
