Tier 1 consists of 100 questions with four subjects having equal representation. Tier 2 consists of several parts of Paper 1 (compulsory) and other papers of certain posts.
In both levels negative marking is used. At Tier 1, the deduction of 0.50 marks is made per wrong answer. In Tier 2 Paper 1, 1 mark is deducted in most sections.
Tier 1 Syllabus SSC CGL 2026
Tier 1 consists of four parts of equal marks, General Intelligence and Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude, English Comprehension and General Awareness. The sections have 25 questions each and 50 marks.
General Intelligence & Reasoning
This part is a test of logical and analytical skills. The questions are founded on analogy, coding-decoding, series of numbers and alphabets, syllogism, blood relations, direction test, statement-conclusion, mirror images, embedded figures and non-verbal reasoning.
It is a moderate level of difficulty, which is mostly conceptual.
Quantitative Aptitude
The Quant section determines the numerical capability up to Class 10 level. These are percentage, ratio and proportion, profit and loss, time and work, time-speed-distance, simple and compound interest, algebraic identities, geometry, trigonometry, mensuration, and data interpretation.
High scores require speed and accuracy.
English Comprehension
English section is concerned with grammar and vocabulary. It contains error detection, fill in the blanks, synonyms and antonyms, idioms and phrases, active-passive voice, direct-indirect speech, cloze test, and reading comprehension.

General Awareness
General Awareness consists of the static GK and current affairs. Questions are posed based on Indian history, polity, economy, geography, science, government schemes, awards and latest happenings within the last 6-8 months.
