UPSC CSE 2025 Cut Off Marks were officially announced by the Union Public Service Commission (UPS) in March 2026. The results revealed that the cut off mark for the General category in the Prelims was 92.66 out of 200 marks, which was one of the highest in the last few years.

Note: Marks from only GS Paper 1 will be considered for cut off. GS PAPER II (CSAT): This is just a qualifying paper; students need to secure 33% (66 marks out of 200) in this paper to be eligible to appear for the main paper.

UPSC Prelims Cut Off 2026 – What to Expect?

The UPSC Prelims 2026 exam is just around the corner, and candidates are eager to know the cut off for the exam. Although there is no way to know for sure, past trends are used to help estimate the number. 

Considering the trend, which has been increasing in 2024 and 2025, and also depending on the difficulty level of the paper, the anticipated UPSC Prelims cut off 2026 for General category may range from 85 to 95 marks.

Why Does the UPSC Cut Off Change Every Year?

1. Paper 1 – Difficulty level of the paper – more students will get less marks as the paper is very difficult in GS paper 1, so cut off will be lowered. The easier the paper, the more students will score highly and the higher the cut off. 

2. Number of Seats: The competition is more intense if the number of seats is less, and can result in the rise of the cut off. The more vacancies, the less it will be. 

3. Number of candidates appearing every year (in Lakhs). The higher the number of students that score well, the more the competition will increase and the higher it will be. 

4. Cut offs for reservation policy: Different categories (General, OBC, SC, ST, EWS) have different cut offs. These are figures that are directly affected by the government's reservation rules. 4
