Standard form of Quadratic Equation
The standard form of a quadratic equation is ax2+bx+c=0, where all the variables like a, b and c are real numbers and a≠0. In this equation ‘a’ is the coefficient of x2 and it is also known as quadratic coefficient. The variable ‘b’ is the coefficient of x. It is called the linear coefficient. Lastly, ‘c’ is the constant term.
Discriminant
b2-4ac is the discriminant (D) of the quadratic equation, which can be utilized to solve the quadratic equation. The discriminant roots of a quadratic equation are determined by its coefficients.
Weightage of Chapter 4 Quadratic Equations:
Only if students practice the greatest number of problems, analyze themselves, and keep working on their weaknesses until the exam comes will they be able to get good scores from this chapter's 7-8-point questions.
Nature of Roots
Quadratic equation roots can take one of three forms depending on the discriminant, D=b24ac.
Case 1: If D>0, the equation has two distinct real roots.
Case 2: If D=0, the equation has two equal real roots.
Case 3: If D<0, the equation has no real roots.
Nature of the graph for various D values.
If D > 0, the parabola crosses the x-axis exactly twice. The rhizomes may be easily distinguished from one another. In the given figure, the quadratic polynomial intersects the x-axis at two distinct points.
Even when D=0, only a very little piece of the curve rests on top of or below the x-axis. On the quadratic polynomial shown in the graphic above, there is only one point that crosses the x-axis.
When D<0, the parabola is totally above or below the x-axis, hence there is no point of contact. In this case, there are no actual roots.
