GATE is a computer-based exam conducted by IISC Bangalore and seven IITs (Indian Institute of Technology). The examination is organized twice a year, in the month of March and December. It tests the candidates’ knowledge on various topics related to engineering and technology disciplines, including Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science.
This test is conducted as an entrance examination for the courses like M. Tech, PhD and M.E in IISc and IITs. Public Sector Companies also recruit candidates on the basis of GATE scores. Two new subject papers also introduced in GATE in 2020, which are: ES (Environmental Science and Engineering) & XH (Humanities and Social Sciences) in English, Economics, Sociology, Philosophy, Psychology and Linguistics. Gate exam pattern include Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ), Multiple Select Questions (MSQ) and Numerical Answer Type (NAT) Questions. Each question has the weightage of 1 or 2 marks for the total of 100 marks. The duration of exam is 3 hours and exam is divided into two sections General Aptitude (GA) + Candidate’s Selected Subject. The total number of questions are 65 in this exam. Negative marking is also here in this exam: 1/3 mark will be deducted for a wrong 1 mark MCQ and 2/3 mark will be deducted for a wrong 2 Mark MCQ. And no negative marking for wrong answer in MSQ questions.
