NCERT Solutions for Chapter 14 science Class 10:
Energy is derived from several sources. These sources are classified as:
There are various sources from which Energy can be derived. The classification of these sources is as follows:
- Renewable Sources
- Non-renewable Sources
The sources of energy are produced from natural resources such as water, wind, sun, etc. In other words, the sources which can be restored quickly and have likely unlimited supply are known as Renewable resources. Like, if we talk about the sun, the sunlight is an unlimited source of energy there is no end to the sunlight, the wind is in the atmosphere so there is an unlimited supply of wind as well, and the earth is 70 percent water which makes water likely unlimited as a source of energy because not all the water is consumable.
The energy which is derived from the sun can be converted into solar energy with the use of solar panels, which is being used widely as a source of energy to generate electricity, appliances like solar cooker which is used in the kitchen, and windmills are used to convert wind energy into electricity and thermal plants are set to convert heat energy into electricity.
The sources of energy that are obtained from those natural resources which if once exhausted cannot be renewed or replenished for many years are known as Non-renewable sources. Fossil fuels, coal, natural gas, etc. are some sources of non-renewable energy. Many years are dedicated to forming these resources again with their natural processing. These non-renewable resources are however less eco-friendly in comparison to the renewable resources because they produce lots of pollution in the environment when they are burnt.
There are many advantages and disadvantages of these sources of energy. And that is the reason why these resources should be used wisely. In the current situation of the world, the non-renewable sources of energy are in danger and about to get exhausted. Scientists are searching for alternative sources of energy to replace these sources, to use them in an environmentally-friendly way and it can be unlimited as well.
