In this time, cadets are not commissioned officers but they are given a fixed monthly allowance of Rs.56100, same as basic pay of a Lieutenant at Level 10. The academy will provide food, accommodation and uniforms and this stipend is for personal expenses. This training is designed to develop physical fitness, discipline, leadership and academic learning, which will lay the foundation for the entire career growth that will follow in CDS.
Upon completion of training, cadets are officially commissioned as officers and that's when the real officer salary of the CDS kicks in. All newly commissioned officers, irrespective of academy, enter the pay at Pay Level 10 of the 7th Pay Commission matrix.
