Children should have a slightly more robust approach to studying for the Class 3 Olympiad exams in 2026-27 than in previous years as from that year onwards, students are eligible to sit for Level 2 exams if they qualify at Level 1. Olympiad Preparation for Class 3 should emphasize the revision of concepts in English, Science and Maths, timed sample papers and speed along with accuracy. It is important to practice daily from the beginning as a Class 3 Olympiad Exam can result in a second round.
It's an exciting time in a child's Olympiad journey when they reach Class 3. Most exams were only one level until Class 2, but from Class 3 onwards the highest achieving candidates are given an opportunity to re-take the exam in Level 2. This makes preparation a little more important this year. In this blog, we have provided a clear and simple approach to the preparation of Maths Olympiad Class 3, Science Olympiad Class 3, and English Olympiad Class 3 so that children don't get overwhelmed.
What Is a Class 3 Olympiad Exam?
Olympiad exams assess the concepts and not the memory of the child. The Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF) conducts most of the Class 3 Olympiad tests through the International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO), International Science Olympiad (ISO), and International English Olympiad (IEO). The official SOF IMO page states that the Level 1 is for students from Class 1 to Class 12 and the Level 2 is for students from Class 3 to Class 12. This means that Class 3 will be the first year that a child can have the complete two level Olympiad experience.
There is often a logical reasoning section, questions based on the subject and an "Achievers" section with more difficult questions in each paper. The time duration of SOF exams is usually 1 hour and the answer format is based on OMR which is a common feature of IMO, ISO and IEO papers.
